About gDesklets

gDesklets is a system for bringing mini programs (desklets), such as weather forecasts, news tickers, system information displays, or music player controls, onto your desktop, where they are sitting there in a symbiotic relationship of eye candy and usefulness. The possibilities are really endless and they are always there to serve you whenever you need them, just one key-press away. The system is not restricted to one desktop environment, but currently works on most of the modern Unix desktops (including GNOME, KDE, Xfce).

Due to some changed server settings we are experiencing problems with uploading and thus desklet and control submissions don't work for the time being. This issue will be fixed as soon as possible, meaning that it should work by the end of next week. I take it back. Everything works again :) .

Another nice IRC meeting took place at the usual location. This time, we covered the

    Road to v0.40.

We basically agreed on just porting the core to the new architecture and add new features later (which will be likely in v0.41 and v0.42). Read more about the meeting here.

    Hey gDesklets lovers ;-)

We'll have another IRC meeting next Sunday (8th July) at 21.00 CEST (UTC+2). It will cover The Road to v0.40, since we were really busy last Sunday with the current status of v0.35.

We hope to get as many people on irc as we did on 1st July. So, if you are great gDesklets fan and want to be part of our ongoing efforts to make gDesklets more attractive again, you're welcome at irc://irc.gnome.org#gdesklets.

    Cheers,
    Christian

We had a fruitful meeting on Sunday and came up with a lot of ideas. The most important thing is the decision to release a new version: 0.36, which will feature..
  • support for GTK 2.12 (no crashing and possible support for translucency)
  • a new desklet based shell
  • better documentation
  • new ADL-tags
Also with the release of 0.36, we'll ship:
  • a new set of basic desklets that have been tested and can easily be distributed by distribution packagers
  • an update to SideCandy, the ever-so-popular theme-engine for desklets The release is scheduled for August/September.
